It has been a summer of holding our breath, in more ways than one.

For the past few weeks, we’ve watched the skies and forecasts with a familiar, quiet anxiety. With wildfires burning north of Whistler, close to my parents’ old family cabin on Tyaughton Lake, the dry conditions hit very close to home. We were fortunate that the winds pushed the fire away from our cabin, but our thoughts are deeply with the communities in places like Clinton and Boston Bar who faced much tougher impacts this season. The cooler, wet weather arriving now brings a profound sense of relief—a very welcome exhale for our forests and our community.

Navigating the Summer Market (and Looking Ahead to Fall)

That shift in the weather brings a natural moment to reflect on what we’re seeing in the local real estate market.

If you currently have a listing that feels a little quiet right now, take a deep breath: summer in Whistler is naturally a slower stretch. Buyers are out enjoying the trails, biking, spending time on our beautiful lakes enjoying water sports, and making the most of the warm weather rather than sitting at their desks browsing listings.

Beneath that quiet summer surface, however, there is real opportunity brewing:

Finding Our Family Rhythm

While the market takes its mid-summer pause, Sherry and I are making sure to soak up the season.

As Realtors, carving out summer downtime is always a balancing act, but we’ve managed to escape to our cabin on the Sunshine Coast. Thanks to modern technology, we can work seamlessly from the deck—welcoming new clients and answering market questions with a view of the ocean.

The rest of the family has been keeping busy as well:

• Our oldest son is playing lounge piano at the Bearfoot Bistro this season. If you’re strolling through the village, drop by for some fantastic jazz—it’s a wonderful spot for a summer evening.

• Our youngest son is traveling through Japan with friends, putting his Duolingo skills to the test.

• Between work and family check-ins, Sherry and I have been getting out on our bikes whenever possible and enjoying the Summer Concert Series in Whistler Village.

Summer in the mountains always flies by, but there is still plenty of the season left to enjoy—starting with the upcoming long weekend! We’d like to wish everyone a very Happy BC Day (August 1st).
